We commenced the journey we called our vacation by flying into Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where Devan got to meet her Great Grandparents, Stan and Anne. Stan and Anne are from Brooklyn and have lots of interesting stories that we always love to hear. Devan wasn't so sure about Stan but warmed up to Anne a bit before we left.

Our hotel left much to be desired, but we did have a great view and a short walk to the beach.

With the exception of Devan, we had all been to Florida several times before,
but it was this particular trip that we learned Florida has a state motto. It
goes like this, "Florida: We Do What We Want!" If anyone has ever driven in Florida,
then you surely can confirm that the motto is in fact true. Our second stop
was St. Augustine, Florida that was slightly less chaotic than South Florida,
but still no shortage of the state motto believers. This was just an overnight
stop but we managed to do quite a bit. We climbed the St. Augustine lighthouse and took some nice pictures of a picturesque beach along the Atlantic.

On our way to Charleston, we stopped in Savannah, GA and toured the city. We drove past Paula Deen's restaurant but the line just to put your name in was down the street, so we opted for a place called The Pirate House that was pretty tasty. Instead of a bread basket, they bring you a biscuit basket with some type of honey butter that was delectable. After lunch it was back to the forrest. And by forrest I mean the freeway, because from Florida to North Carolina all we saw on the freeway were trees. And occasionally we would pass a river that actually had water in it. Our next stop was Charleston, South Carolina. We enjoyed some time in the pool at our hotel and visited a beautiful plantation. We got to see an original plantation home and original slave quarters, along with many beautiful gardens. Devan's favorite part were the all terrain strollers.

We left Charleston and headed towards our final destination, North Carolina. Quinn flew down for the weekend and as always had lots of fun playing with Devan. The next picture reminds me of a short trip we took to San Diego with John's family back in January. We all went to the San Diego Zoo and I remember seeing a baby monkey clinging to its mother while the mother would swing around from branch to branch. I remember thinking that it was a good thing Devan and I weren't monkeys because there is no way Devan would hold on to me like that baby monkey did.

Yes, that is my baby swinging from the luggage cart with no help, just like a monkey in the wild. Who knows, maybe we would make a good monkey team!
