Who Knew

Today I went to Walmart. And I liked it. Who knew? I've only been to Walmart a handful of times in my life, mostly because I've never lived by one. And all of these times were pre-baby. Today I was out discovering the new area that I live in and I happened upon a Walmart. I was looking for a specific Mothers Day item and thought I'd give Walmart a try. They didn't have it, but whoa, they have a lot of stuff! Did you know they sell fabric? By the yard? And all kinds of sewing notions, etc. They also sell canning jars which I will have to go back for because it's strawberry season around here. Really a great store, I think. Lots of cheap clothes, shoes, books, toys, all things kids. It's wonderful. And refreshing. I almost forgot I was in Orange County until I left the store and saw the parking lot full of Mercedes and BMWs. As happy as I was to rediscover Walmart, I must say, Target still has my heart.

It's been a little cool and rainy here so last night I decided to make corn chowder.

I absolutely love the smell of celery and onion cooking. It reminds me of my Mother, and Thanksgiving. The corn chowder came out pretty good, but I burnt my tongue so many times tasting it that I can't really be sure.

I am looking forward to going home this weekend for Mothers day to see my Mom and Sister. I told John for Mothers day I wanted to walk around Ikea, all by myself, for as long as I wanted. Every time I've gone it's been with Devan, which, needless to say ends with me rushing through to find what I know I need and leaving promptly after. However, since we live so close to one now we've been a lot. So I think I will have to think of a different Mothers day gift.

Anyway, time to get back to putting away my piles!

Ooh, I need your corn chowder recipe. And I've only been to Walmart a few times...not living near one either. I'll admit, I was relieved to hear Target still has your heart. :) And yay for living near an Ikea! That's awesome.
ps. the Indian lady at Target says hi.

Our love for Wal-mart has depended on the areas we live in. In NP, it wasn't so great. Then, we moved to Arizona and LOVED Wal-mart. We did all our grocery shopping there and they price-matched and it was great. Now, we don't like it so much anymore because of the customer service. It's so cheap that we often do grocery shopping there, but when we need other things, we'll often drive past Wal-mart and go to Target. We LOVE Target and always have - it has my heart, too.
